HP recalls 6 million power cords

Hewlett-Packard is recalling AC Power Cords for Compact Computers. Cords can overheat posing a potential for fires and burns. HP’s received 29 reports of melting and charring resulting in two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of property damage.

This recall is specifically for Packard’s LS-15 AC power cord. They were distributed with HP and Compaq Notebook Computers, as well as, Mini Notebook Computers. They were also sold with AC powered accessories, such as, docking stations. They are black with “LS-15” marked on the AC adapter.

Faulty units were sold online at www.hp.com from September 2010 through June 2012, as well as, being distributed worldwide at computer and electronic stores.

Customers should immediately stop using these products and unplug the power cords. Continue to use the computer on battery power, and contact Hewlett-Packard for a free replacement.
