After two children became trapped in the gap between the crib and the mattress, IKEA is recalling VYSSA crib mattresses. The space between the mattress and the crib is larger than allowed by federal regulations. A gap larger than two fingers’ width is an indication that the mattress could potentially entrap an infant. There are 5 models known to exceed this width: VACKERT, VINKA, SPELEVINK, SLOA, and SLUMMER.
The involved mattresses were manufactured on May 4, 2014 or earlier. A label attached to the mattress cover has the manufacturing date. It will be in Month-DD-YYYY format. The model name will be on this same label.
Consumers with a recalled mattress should ensure there’s no gap larger than two fingers’ width between the end of the crib and the mattress. If the gap is too large, customers should stop using the mattress immediately and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or full refund.
