The Danger of the Volkswagen Recall:
Volkswagen vehicles are not being pulled from the road because of the danger they pose to drivers directly. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recalled them for having software that turned on an emissions control system when the cars were being inspected. The EPA is now collaborating with the Department of Justice and the state of California on an investigation of wrongdoing that could result in criminal charges.
Overview:
Under the Clean Air Act, vehicle manufacturers are required to certify to the EPA that their products will meet applicable federal emission standards to control air pollution, and every vehicle sold in the U.S. must be covered by an EPA-issued certificate of conformity.
Motor vehicles – such as the Volkswagen models in question – equipped with defeat devices, which reduce the effectiveness of the emission control system during normal driving conditions, cannot be certified.
This resulted in over 500,000 vehicles to be recalled.
Volkswagen Vehicles Being Recalled:
Here are the models and years of the recalled diesel-power vehicles:
- Volkswagen Jetta, 2009-15
- Volkswagen Beetle, 2009-15
- Volkswagen Golf, 2009-15
- Volkswagen Passat, 2014-15
- Audi A3, 2009-15

What To Do If You Have One of the Recalled Vehicles:
Return your car to your dealership and ask for a loaner vehicle. It should be covered under your warranty.
