Partial Paralyzation Caused By Trek Bicycle

Trek is recalling bicycles sold between the years 2000-2015 after three reported injuries, one causing partial paralyzation to the rider. The incidents were caused by a lever on the front wheel contacting with the front brake hub resulting in a sudden stop.

The faulty bikes will be equipped with front disc brakes and a black or silver lever on the front wheel. This lever will open far enough to contact the brakes. Bicycles with levers that don’t open a 180 degrees are not included in this recall.

Consumers should stop using affected bicycles immediately and contact an authorized Trek retailer. They’ll give you a free installation for the lever. Trek will provide each owner who participates in the recall with a $20 coupon, redeemable by 12/31/15, for any Bontrager merchandise.

For further information contact Trek, toll-free, at (800) 373-4594. They’re open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Central Time, Monday through Friday. Or find them online at www.trekbikes.com and click on ‘Safety & Recalls’ at the bottom of the page.
